Masterpiece. One of the best screenplays in American cinema. Jack Nickolson is phenomenal.

I saw this when it first came out and many times since. Polanski developed the symbolism of the eye through the movie so his version of the the ending worked. Evelyn Mulwray, a victim of incest, has her eye damaged when she and Jake are fleeing the retirement home after being shot at, a ...Read more

A true classic and a film noir masterpiece. Interesting to wonder how the film would have been received had Polanski settled for the "happy ending" screenwriter Robert Towne had written originally. Apparently Polanski rewrote the end. And what good instincts he had. Especially hard to imagine ...Read more

Boy, everybody was at the top of their game here: Polanski, Towne, Nicholson. Movies are such complicated creations. There are many great ones, but few that feel flawless. "Chinatown" is one.

can't deny this was a great film. I just got finished, and feel so sad . SPOILER ALERT The victims never get a break.
The patriarch seems to get away with pure evil.. Hard to watch in the Trump era.

Your unnecessary, irrelevant side comment, was offensive to me. Trust me, there have been Presidents I despised but, I would never publicly slander them because I still always respect the office. Let's leave Kanopy non-political.

we can all comment how we choose - Krysia, because everyone has an opinion and is entitled to it!
just because it doesn't jive with your thought process doesn't mean it's irrelevant or unnecessary.

thanks. I didn't think of it as slander. I see you are a defender of people sharing their impressions . I commented because it's a great film AND may have effect on emotions in the current climate. Happy viewing, Lisa I liked Bad Lucky Goat, , Letter to Momo and anything by Taika Waititi.

Where can you find a great movie like Chinatown? Kanopy.com That's why I signed up. Didn't even pay a fee. I used to live in a town called Santa Fe. Most people know it, FEW HAVE ever been. What I liked about Santa Fe was plenty of things. What I did NOT like about Santa Fe were the teachers ...Read more
